03. Interactive Multimedia Display Brief Ordering Plan

July 11, 12

A "Brief Ordering Plan" was prepared for the Office of Dean of Engineering to give a rough idea on the equipment needed to carry forward with this project. A more detailed examination of each part will be produced in the future. The key components are outlined below with a brief justification of each.

Computer - $650

A PC (Custom Built with Windows 7) from NCIX

The choice to do custom is that it allows for greater performance and flexibility to meet our needs.

Screen - $1500 before Tax

55” Samsung UN55EH6000FXZC from Bestbuy

This model was chosen because it is available at local stores and shipping is free if required. LEDs perform better in a wide range of lighting conditions. Similar displays from other brands are also available and are more than acceptable options. A consumer level display was selected, to use a professional level display add an extra $500.

Mounting - $200

For wall mount (Waiting on quotes for Full Enclosure)

Wall mount, got the price from Campus Card. Waiting on quotes for a full enclosure as I believe that provides the best option in Mackenzie.

Security- $200 (Rough Estimate)

Need transmitter and tabs. Locks to prevent mount from coming down. Security screws to secure Kinect and cables in place.

Networking and Electrical - $700

 Physical Plant & CCS

This number is from Campus Card and how much they normally pay to get the networking and electrical work done. We will likely need a conduit run to keep things looking clean

Software - $0
Vodigi is open source, and I have taken the original product and made it into something more suitable for our needs. The advantage to this is that there are far less limitations on what can be done then with proprietary software.

Kinect - $250 + tax

Provides users with an interactive experience unlike any they have had before with digital signage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOTAL                                                                                       Approximately $4000 per Display

This total is much lower than totals quoted by IMS or Campus Card, as there is no need for a software license. The screen is the biggest variable and size can be increased or decreased depending on budget.
